Since joining RisCassi & Davis, P.C. in 1985, David Cooney has handled a wide range of personal injury and wrongful death cases, including truck and car collisions, workplace accidents and claims of medical malpractice. Over the years, he has been able to secure numerous multi-million dollar settlements and verdicts for his clients, in cases ranging from wrongful death claims brought against drunken drivers and negligent trucking companies, to brain injuries resulting from carbon monoxide poisoning or construction site accidents. Regardless of the type of case, David focuses on the human aspect of the practice, so he can help his clients preserve their dignity as he works to obtain the justice they deserve.

David is a 1975 honors graduate of Rutgers College where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. He then attended the University of Connecticut School of Law receiving his J.D. in May, 1978. In 1998, David obtained an M.A. degree from Wesleyan University, where he studied history, politics and literature. After graduating from law school, he worked at a law firm in Hartford defending personal injury and asbestos claims. He joined RisCassi & Davis in June, 1985.

David and his wife Joan live in Bloomfield. They have five adult children and four grandchildren. They are both very active in their community and their church.

Since 1994, David has been certified in Civil Trial Advocacy by the National Board of Trial Advocacy. He presently serves as the President-Elect of the Connecticut Trial Lawyers Association and is a member of the association’s Board of Governors and the Executive, Medical Malpractice and Continuing Legal Education Committees. In June, 2008, David was the co-recipient of the association’s T. Paul Tremont Award, which was awarded for his commitment to the education of law school students, as he teaches a course in Intensive Trial Advocacy at the University of Connecticut School of Law, where he has been an Adjunct Professor since 2001. In 2007, the Law School also honored David for his many years of service to the school where he teaches students the art of trial advocacy.
